Tribute to Dr Kadir

Created by Venkatarama 2 years ago
It is an honor and privilege for me to pay tribute to a very special person, Dr. Kadir, who passed away suddenly on 26 September 2021 while at home. He left us recently and shockingly.

I, Mani, joined the Tottenham surgery due to my late family friend Mr. Viswanathan, the accountant for the surgery. I was fortunate to work for 6 GP’s all from Calcutta university. I was also brought up in Calcutta. I found each GP had their strengths and Dr. Kadir was a very efficient and caring GP. His specialty in Diabetes was superlative. We developed a rapport quickly and it never waned despite my leaving the surgery several years ago.

He sought my help in contacting a colorectal surgeon, as my son’s friend was, and it transpired that he had a good treatment under the NHS, and he knew the prognosis in his case. I am sure you all would have known as well. He was happy he was well looked after by the family.

I never thought I would be required to write this tribute so soon. I am shattered that we all had to lose him so suddenly. It is with great sadness that I remember the life of my close boss, an admired GP, a dutiful husband, and a father.

To all in the family, who have experienced this loss, know that understanding their emotions, not suppressing them, and dealing with them in healthy ways, writing, music, work, engaging in hobbies, etc. will help one go through grief and help to deal with the loss at one’s own pace. When it hits hard, as in this case remembering the memories and various stories, he used to narrate would help us all. Maybe ‘grief is another name for love, I suppose.

I had found him to be a fountain of knowledge on various topics all religions and other areas with innumerable anecdotes to fit any occasion. I am more of a Nissan Micra owner but always park my car next to a BMW or Lexus (Dr. Kadir). We were always together and he exuded all the wisdom and I was, as they say in racing, ‘an also ran’.

We knew each other’s weaknesses but accepted each other, as we were, and he was a core part of my identity.  I want to remind you all that we had such a phenomenal run together in the Tottenham surgery, though for a short period. We kept in touch and talked fondly. He was very proud of his family, the two girls doing well in Oxbridge, beyond graduating and completing Doctorate degrees. He talked fondly of his wife and was sad we did not meet as a family in each other’s house.

It is incredibly sad that his life ended so soon and it is difficult to put in words how much I will miss him. I appreciated his friendship and will never forget him.

Now we will let you rest,
Although without you their world's a mess.
We would miss you with all our hearts,
We wish we never had to part.
They know you're always by their side,
So now we guess this is our goodbye...
